Location: Located to the north of Santa Cruz Island, Seymour Point is a captivating dive site situated just 30 minutes from Itabaca Channel on the northern side of Santa Cruz Island. This proximity allows for easy access to a remarkable underwater experience, making it a must-visit for diving enthusiasts.
Site Conditions: Seymour Point presents a slightly more challenging dive compared to nearby Seymour Channel, offering an adventurous option for experienced divers. The dive site features a rocky bottom, punctuated by small caves at around 12 meters, where divers may encounter resting turtles or elusive sharks. Strong currents can occasionally be present, adding an extra thrill to the dive. The experience here is mixed, allowing divers to explore the coastline before venturing into the blue depths in search of pelagic species. Toward the end of the dive, there’s a platform where divers can observe sharks gliding gracefully with the current, as well as a cleaning station where various marine creatures come for grooming.
Activity: The underwater activity at Seymour Point is rich and diverse. Divers can expect to see a variety of marine life at the cleaning station, where sea lions often playfully interact with divers. The site is also frequented by Galapagos sharks, white-tip reef sharks, and the impressive hammerhead sharks, providing thrilling encounters. Mobulas, graceful turtles, and a colorful assortment of reef fish populate the waters, creating a vibrant underwater landscape.
You may also spot stingrays and eagle rays elegantly gliding by, along with the fascinating Galapagos eel and schools of barracudas that enhance the dynamic ecosystem. The area is further enriched by a variety of invertebrates, adding to the diverse marine life that thrives here.
