Location: Mosquera North is situated to the north of Santa Cruz Island, nestled between North Seymour Island and Baltra Island. This captivating islet, which emerges as a sandbar from the sea, is just a 25-minute boat ride from Itabaca Channel on the northern side of Santa Cruz Island. Its unique geographical position makes it an ideal spot for divers eager to explore the rich underwater environment of the Galapagos.
Site Conditions: The diving conditions at Mosquera North are generally favorable, with little to no strong currents, making it accessible for divers of all skill levels. The sandy bottom descends to around 10 meters, where you can find garden eels and a variety of pelagic species. A sandy rock area connects to the Seymour Channel, creating a habitat for diverse reef fish and providing resting spots for the elusive tintoreras (white-tipped reef sharks). The combination of sandy expanses and rocky formations offers a unique and dynamic dive experience.
Activity: The marine life at Mosquera North is both abundant and diverse. Divers may encounter majestic hammerhead sharks, along with Galapagos sharks, black-tip reef sharks, and white-tip reef sharks cruising through the waters. The playful sea lions are a highlight, often joining divers for an entertaining interaction.
