North Seymour Island Day Tour

North Seymour Island: Encountering Wildlife and Natural Beauty in the Galapagos

Join us for an exhilarating day tour to North Seymour Island, a wildlife haven in the heart of the Galapagos archipelago. Our journey begins with a bus or van ride from Puerto Ayora to the Itabaca Channel, where we will board our boat for a short sail to North Seymour.

Arrival at North Seymour Island

North Seymour Island features a relatively flat landscape, a result of its formation from an uplifted seabed rather than volcanic activity like many other islands in the archipelago. This unique geological history sets the stage for a fascinating exploration.

Walking the Island Trail

Upon arrival, we will disembark and embark on a walk along a two-kilometer trail that winds through some of the largest frigate bird colonies in the Galapagos. Along the way, we will encounter a diverse array of wildlife, including blue-footed boobies, seagulls, land iguanas, marine iguanas, and a lively colony of sea lions. This trail offers one of the best opportunities to observe the striking frigate birds inflating their distinctive red pouches to attract females.

We will also come across the endemic lignum vitae plant, a bushy tree that remains leafless during the summer but turns lush and green with the first rains of the year, adding to the island’s unique botanical charm.

Snorkeling at Bachas Beach

After exploring North Seymour, we will head to Bachas Beach on the northern coast of Santa Cruz Island. The beach’s name, «Bachas,» derives from the local pronunciation of «barges,» referencing the two abandoned American army boats left here after World War II. At Bachas Beach, we will have time to snorkel and enjoy the serene waters and beautiful sandy shore.

Bachas Beach is not only a great spot for snorkeling but also an excellent place for wildlife observation. Here, we can spot flamingos, Galapagos crabs (zayapas), and a variety of marine birds, adding to the day’s wildlife encounters.

Return to Puerto Ayora

After a day filled with the natural wonders of North Seymour Island and the tranquility of Bachas Beach, we will return to Puerto Ayora, carrying with us memories of the diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes of the Galapagos.

Join us for a remarkable day tour to North Seymour Island, where you can immerse yourself in the vibrant wildlife and stunning natural beauty of the Galapagos archipelago.
