Do you need travel insurance to visit Ecuador and Galapagos?

It is not neccesary to bring medical or travel insurance to visit Ecuador or Galapagos.

As part of our commitment to inform you on the most important updates in Ecuador and Galapagos, we would like to announce that the Galapagos travel insurance requirement for visitors entering Ecuador has been abolished by the Ecuadorian Congress.The requirement for health insurance for visitors traveling to the Galapagos Islands was going to take effect on the 1st of November 2018. However, the Ecuadorian government and the Galapagos Governmental Council (Consejo de Gobierno de Galapagos) have decided to delay it. At the date of 07/20/2019, it hasn´t been approved yet, and probably it won´t ever be.The tourism industry and the central government are trying to abolish this requirement for good, but until this happens, they have decided to delay it to avoid affecting visitors to the islands.
