DAY 3
Exploring Baños and the Pailon del Diablo Waterfall
After a hearty breakfast, we will explore Baños, a town located at the foot of the active Tungurahua volcano. From here, we begin our journey toward the Amazon Basin, following the scenic route that runs alongside the impressive Pastaza River gorge, which plummets nearly 300 meters deep. Our destination is the village of Rio Verde, where a half-hour walk through the lush cloud forest takes us to one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the region—El Pailón del Diablo («The Devil’s Cauldron»). This immense waterfall crashes into a cauldron of rocks formed by the sheer force of the water, offering a dramatic and awe-inspiring sight. For those seeking an extra thrill, a small tunnel carved into the rock allows adventurers to get up close behind the waterfall, though it promises a wet experience due to the constant spray.
Afterward, we return to our transport for the scenic drive back to Quito, reflecting on the unforgettable landscapes and experiences of the past few days. Upon arrival in Quito, we will drop you off at the airport for your flight home or to continue your next adventure.
