Devil’s Nose Train and Ingapirca Ruins

Following a traditional highland breakfast, we depart for the town of Alausí, where one of the most thrilling railway experiences in the world awaits. The famed Nariz del Diablo («Devil’s Nose») train ride takes you on a remarkable descent along steep, switchback tracks carved into a sheer rock face, an engineering marvel once dubbed “the most difficult railway in the world.” As the train winds its way down and back up the cliffside, you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the rugged landscape. We make a brief stop at Sibambe Station for a panoramic viewpoint, offering a perfect vantage point to admire the zigzagging railway and its steep descent.

Our journey continues to Huigra, where we disembark and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. We then proceed to Ingapirca, Ecuador’s most significant archaeological site. The meticulously carved stone structures of this ancient complex, including the iconic Temple of the Sun, offer a fascinating glimpse into the religious and ceremonial practices of the Inca and Cañari civilizations. As we explore the ruins, we’ll see remnants of an observatory, paths, priest quarters, and an ancient indigenous plaza. After this cultural immersion, we continue to the charming city of Cuenca, where we will check in to your selected hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
