After a filling breakfast, the tour begins with a transfer and a one-hour speedboat ride to the Cabo Rosa lava tunnels, also known as “Los Túneles”, off the coast of Isabela Island. Formed millions of years ago, these tunnels were created when rivers of liquid lava flowed across the island, reaching the shore where cold water solidified their outer layers while maintaining a molten interior.

As volcanic activity subsided, hollow structures were left behind, later breached by the sea to create the impressive tunnels.
Accompanied by a guide who will snorkel with the group, you’ll explore these tunnels and encounter a diverse array of marine life. Keep an eye out for sharks, lobsters, Galapagos penguins, sea lions, blue-footed boobies, sea turtles, and various tropical fish species.

In the afternoon, enjoy the opportunity to explore Isabela Island’s beautiful coastline on mountain bikes. The trail leads through an incredible ecosystem teeming with wildlife. Your first stop is the Wall of Tears, a monumental structure built from lava rocks in the 1950s when Isabela served as a penal colony. Prisoners constructed the wall as a coping mechanism for the isolation they endured.

Continuing along the coast, you can discover pristine white sand beaches, mangrove forests, and serene lagoons, home to a plethora of birdlife including American oystercatchers, herons, flamingos, finches, and numerous shorebirds, alongside abundant sea lions and marine iguanas.
