Galapagos Multisport – Day 6

Day 6 – Flight and tranfer to Santa Cruz Island and visit to the Highlands

Your day begins as you meet your driver, who will escort you to Isabela Airport for your flight to Baltra Island. Upon arrival at Baltra Airport, a representative will be waiting to assist you with a short transfer across the Itabaca Channel from Baltra Island to Santa Cruz Island.

Once on Santa Cruz Island, your exploration leads to the lush highlands, a stark contrast to the coastal areas, boasting dense vegetation and forests nurtured by the higher elevations’ humidity. En route to the highlands, you’ll stop at «Los Gemelos,» or twin domes. These formations, not craters as commonly thought, are collapsed magma domes that now present as two deep and wide pits located beside the road.

Continuing your journey, you’ll arrive at a local ranch in the highlands where a lunch prepared from local produce awaits. Here, you’ll have the chance to observe the iconic giant tortoises of Galapagos in their natural habitat. The area is also home to the ground finch of Santa Cruz, alongside species like the vermilion flycatcher and yellow warbler that thrive in these forests.

After lunch, delve into the islands’ volcanic history with a visit to iconic lava tunnels, guided by insights into their geological origins. Concluding this exploration, you’ll be transferred to the charming town of Puerto Ayora to check into your hotel. You’ll then have the remainder of the day to relax or venture out for independent exploration.
